interesting things to do in our back yard!

Here you will find information on county-wide resources for use by the people of Carbon County, as well as volunteer opportunities that support these organizations.

Carbon County has a rich mix of historical, industrial, and natural attractions. Check them out!

  • Interested in a perfect family getaway that’s close to home? OurCarbonPA has it!
  • Want to travel 1600 feet into the mountainside, see an underground mule-way and experience first-hand what it was like to work underground? OurCarbonPA has it.
  • Unique local attractions such as the Number 9 Mine, Mauch Chunk Museum and Carbon County Environmental Education Center are here, along with many other recreational and educational attractions including libraries and parks. OurCarbonPA will provide you with a cross-section of local activities.

About OurCarbonPA

OurCarbonPA is the project of the Leadership Carbon Class of 2009. Leadership Carbon is an adult Leadership Development Program designed to cultivate leaders for the benefit of Carbon County’s future. The program is currently run by the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce. It was established by Carbon County Partners for Progress due to a need in Carbon County to increase its leadership resources and capacity. Leadership Carbon is a 9-month program and class members are introduced to local business, civic leaders and institutions, and receive leadership training. To participate in a future Leadership Carbon class please contact the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce.

The OurCarbonPA website is a platform for Carbon County organizations that wish to present themselves to Carbon County residents. Organizations are given a page that they can maintain. It is possible for an organization to use this as a primary single-page site, or to use this site to link to the organization’s main site. The initial set of organizations was selected by the Leadership Carbon Class of 2009. The team managing this site welcomes additional members. We are evaluating our selection criteria to make sure that the site is as inclusive as possible while staying true to its mission. While we are focusing on non-profit, volunteer-supported organizations, any group desiring inclusion on this site is welcomed to send an introductory email to ourcarbonpa@ptd.net.
